GLOSSARY OF TERMS

Neutural/Borosilicate/Type I

This is a glass that belongs to the borosilicate family of glass. It is widely used in the parmaceutical industry because of its inert qualities. The term Type I or Neutral refers to a pharmacopoeial test classification for inert quality, also known as Hydrolytic Resistance. The glass has a typical coefficient of expansion of 33 or 51 meaning it is suitable for autoclave temperatures.

Type III/Soda Lime

This is a glass that has a high soda content and is used in general purpose applications where inertness and thermal shockares not factors to consider. Typically it has a coefficient of expansion of 95. The term Type III refers to a pharmacopoeial test classification for inert quality, also known as Hydrolytic Resistance
