HEADSPACE

Of the many headspace autosamplers currently available most use a 20-CV, a 10-CV or 6-CV vial. The exceptions are the headspace units from Tekmar. In order to provide the best thermal contact these autosamplers need to use a vial with a slightly larger diameter. These vials have the reference 22-CV. These vials must not be used in other headspace units.

Chromacol vials have a special design to ensure that the vial has the maximum possible strength to withstand higher positive internal pressures. The wall thickness is greater and the base is rounded to eliminate the weak area where the wall joins the base. The rim of the vial has a peak designed to press into the seal so that the seal is more able to withstand higher pressures.

Chromacol has developed some new formulations to withstand the higher temperatures and pressures generated by the latest headspace analysers from Tekmar and CTC/Leap. These seals are also cleaner so that they may be used with selective detectors.

The headspace autosampler from CTC/Leap employs a unique magnetic system to transport the vials to and from the oven area. This means that the caps must be made of a magnetic material. Our 20-MCB caps are ideal for this process. These caps are made from a material which is much harder than the normal aluminium caps and need crimpers, with steel jaws, to make a good seal.
